In the Hautes-Alpes, skiing goes hand in hand with exceptional sunshine and a distinctly Mediterranean atmosphere.
Serre Chevalier, the largest ski area in the department, boasts 250 km of slopes between 1,200 m and 2,800 m, offering a unique skiing experience in the heart of centuries-old larch forests and authentic valleys bordering the Écrins National Park. La Forêt Blanche, a union of the resorts of Vars and Risoul, offers 185 km of slopes between 1,650 m and 2,750 m; it is world-renowned for its speed skiing slope (KL) and its vast expanses of bright snow. These areas differ from the resorts in the north in that they offer a more relaxed atmosphere and high-mountain landscapes bathed in light, where the varied terrain allows for both long, challenging descents and fun runs through the forest.
