When winter puts away its skis, Alpe d’Huez opens a new chapter: a large-scale, luminous summer that alternates between adrenaline and contemplation. It is easy to reach the Pic Blanc (3,330 m) to take in one of the most stunning panoramas in the Alps, then descend toward high-altitude trails, turquoise lakes, and natural balconies surrounding the resort. On foot or by mountain bike, you move through a landscape that breathes openness, between limestone cliffs, gentle ridges, and sun-drenched alpine pastures.
On the thrill side, the famous Col de la Croix de Fer’s 21 hairpin bends (a legendary stage of the Tour de France) attracts both amateur and seasoned cyclists every summer, while the bike park offers a wide variety of trails: more technical descents, flowing routes for skill progression, and e-MTB loops for long rides without exhaustion. For lovers of vertical fresh air, via ferrata and paragliding offer an “aerial reading” of the massif.
Families also find plenty to enjoy: a summer toboggan run, play areas, discovery trails, nature workshops, easy paths leading to lakes, and picnic spots just steps away from the ski lifts.
Here, nature feels vast, the light is generous, and the atmosphere remains true to a welcoming mountain spirit: warm, simple, and full of sunshine. Summer in Alpe d’Huez is accessible adventure, a technicolor backdrop… and a holiday feeling that lingers long after the descent.
